Welcome to Stockton, a small, picturesque village in the heart of the beautiful Wylye Valley in South Wiltshire. Nestled south of the A36 Warminster-Salisbury road and the tranquil River Wylye, Stockton is a quiet and peaceful place renowned for its friendly community atmosphere and historical charm.

A Glimpse into Our Village

Stockton is a community steeped in history, with evidence of Neolithic settlement on Stockton Down and Iron Age/Romano-British earthworks in Stockton Wood. The village boasts a number of notable historic buildings, including the magnificent Grade I listed Elizabethan country house, Stockton House, built in the 1580s, and the charming 15th-century Long Hall. The village church of St. John the Baptist, with its unique solid wall between the nave and chancel and 14th-century effigy, adds to the rich character of the area.

The parish also encompasses Bapton, a small settlement transferred to Stockton in 1934, further expanding our close-knit community and rural landscape.

Life in Stockton

Today, Stockton maintains a serene, rural lifestyle. Residents can enjoy the local pub, The Carriers, and access a range of local amenities in the nearby village of Codford, which offers a primary school, shops, and a medical surgery. The surrounding area, including Stockton Wood and Down, is a biological Site of Special Scientific Interest, providing beautiful opportunities for enjoying the natural environment and local wildlife.

Your Parish Council

The Stockton Parish Council serves as the voice of our community, working to preserve the unique character of our village and address the needs of its residents. We generally maintain a "light hand on the rudder," intervening where necessary to support local life and ensure the parish runs smoothly.

If you have any issues, concerns, or ideas you would like to raise, please do not hesitate to use the 'Contact us' tab or speak to one of the Parish Councillors listed on this site. We are here to listen and assist wherever we can.
